The 2010 Beijing Auto Show was dominated by new entries and concepts from premium automakers, including such vehicles as the Mercedes-Benz Shooting Break and the BMW Gran Coupe. Not to be completely absent from display of premium brands was Volkswagen, which showed off its new 2011 Phaeton sedan. The 2011 Phaeton has been redesigned up front and in the rear to mimic other more recent VWs. Power is supplied by a wide range of engine choices, including 6-, 8- and 12-cylinder options that deliver anywhere from 240 horsepower to as much as 450 horsepower. With the base engine, the Phaeton can run from 0 to 60 mph in a reasonable 8.2 seconds with a top speed of 147 mph.

Unfortunately, this incredibly luxurious, powerful, yet highly understated sedan still will not be available here in the U.S. Hopefully when VW introduces the next-generation Phaeton model, they’ll give it another go in North America.
