During the 2010 Geneva Motor Show in March, Volkswagen will be introducing its new performance division, R GmbH, to better compete with the likes of Mercedes’ AMG and BMW’s M divisions. Although VW buyers can order performance components through the VW GearStore, there’s no official word on whether vehicles from this new division will make it to US showrooms. One of the first products to emerge with the R-treatment is the 2010 Volkswagen Golf R. Making its initial debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show last year, the Golf R is rumored to become available in North America. This Golf R is powered by a 270 horsepower turbocharged and intercooled inline four-cylinder engine that can propel this sporty hatchback from 0-62 mpg in 5.7 seconds.
