Former Top Gear host and current Top Gear magazine and Sunday Times writer Jason Barlow recently took the all-new Honda CR-Z hybrid sports car for a spin in Honda’s new promotional film. This new film, where Barrow “takes the new Honda CR-Z on a journey of discovery through Japan,” is naturally a bit biased, especially considering the mixed reactions the CR-Z has been receiving, but its driving footage and production quality are excellent nevertheless.
Powering the 2011 Honda CR-Z is a 1.5L i-VTEC mated to Honda’s venerable Integrated Motor Assist hybrid system. This powertrain produces 122 horsepower and 128 pound-feet when mated to a six-speed manual transmission (or 123 lb-ft for CVT-equipped models). Fuel economy for this sports hybrid is rated at 31 mpg city and 37 mpg highway with the manual and 36/38 mpg for the CVT.
