Toyota and Subaru have been busy at work building an all-new rear-wheel drive sports car together. While the collective strengths of these two Japanese automakers would no doubt bring about a great sports car, the product has officially been delayed.
Speculation of a Toyota/Subaru sports car has been around for quite some time, but few details have made it out into the open. One possibility is that the car will be available here in the States in the form of the next generation Scion tC coupe. With an initial production start date of 2011, production is now unlikely to begin anytime before 2012.
Citing the global economic crisis and slowing auto sales in North America and at home in Japan, Toyota has been reviewing all projects and new models. The status of this new venture with Subaru comes at a time when Toyota has had to make a very bleak profit forecast, reporting the first operating loss in 70 years.
