Mini Crossman Takes on the Crossover Segment

by Import RPM on November 1, 2008

Mini is known for offering small, yet sporty compacts, and is also one of the few brands today that doesn’t offer an SUV. Although the SUV market remains as crowded as ever, Mini intends to be the latest entry into the compact crossover segment with the Mini Crossman.

Revealed at the Paris Motor Show, the Mini Crossman concept is the largest Mini ever, measuring about 156 inches long. Until the introduction of the Crossman, Mini’s largest model was the new Mini Cooper Clubman. But don’t think that the new Crossman is going to be a huge cargo hauler – the mini Crossman is still shorter than the Honda Civic.

The Mini Crossman concept offers four-wheel drive, a first for Mini, and unique seating configurations, not to mention stunning styling cues that are distinctively Mini. With tremendous interest in luxury, compact crossovers, it seems almost certain that the Mini Crossman will make it into production. If this Mini ‘ute maintains the peppy engines and sporty driving dynamics of the Mini Cooper, it will almost certainly be a hit among consumers who are always on the lookout for a unique, fun-to-drive SUV.
