First came in-car telematics, then came mobile smartphone apps. Now, Mercedes-Benz is looking to combine the two popular technologies with their all-new mbrace smartphone application. The mbrace system is available on the iPhone and on Blackberry devices and can perform a number of common functions such as unlocking car doors, contacting roadside assistance, or locating your vehicle. Co-developed with Hughes Telematics, the system will be available to Mercedes-Benz owners for $280 per year. Unfortunately, the application isn’t quite as cool as the one that remotely controlled 007’s BMW 7-Series in Tomorrow Never Dies, so it looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer for that one.
