Jaguar Hopes to Battle the Boxster

by Import RPM on November 10, 2008

Following the sale of Jaguar from Ford to Tata Motors, the company went to the drawing board to bring about exciting new models to rekindle the lost soul of the British automaker. The latest vehicle to breathe new life into Jaguar’s lineup looks to be a Porsche Boxster fighting sports car.

Currently, there are three new vehicles in development at Jaguar. One is a new coupe and roaster based on the new XF sedan. The other new car is a lightweight sports car that has its sights set on the Boxster. Lastly, there’s a 500-horsepower Jaguar XF-R that will make its debut at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show in January.

The upcoming coupe and roaster will reportedly be positioned just below the XK in the Jaguar lineup. Look for the coupe to break cover late next year, with the roadster to follow about a year later.

Despite some speculation, one model that is not currently in development at Jaguar is a new sport utility vehicle. Tata had no interest in producing a Jaguar SUV as it would compete directly against Land Rover, which is Tata’s other acquisition from Ford.
