Infiniti Goes Topless (Again)

by Import RPM on December 3, 2008

The current generation Infiniti G has become better than its predecessor in just about every way. It’s larger, more powerful, and even packed with more technology and features. If the current G sedan and coupe didn’t offer enough, drivers can now also get the G with a drop-top.

Although it’s not the first Infiniti convertible, the all-new 2009 G37 Convertible is the first ever G drop-top. Unveiled at the LA Auto Show, the latest G variant offers just a few differences from the G37 coupe, which has already managed to capture its own place within the “10 Best Cars” list from Car and Driver. Among the differences are a structural reinforcements to the chassis, a tweaked rear suspension, and a wider track. Another difference between the G37 Convertible and coupe is the weight, which most buyers likely won’t notice thanks to the G’s smooth and powerful 330 horsepower 3.7-liter V6 engine.

The G37 Convertible offers the best of a coupe and a convertible in one package thanks to its three-piece hardtop. In only 30 seconds, the top can be lowered to let the sun in. Luckily, the G37 Convertible offers a 13-speaker Bose Open Air sound system that uses a noise monitoring system to compensate for an abundance of wind or ambient noise.

With a slew of safety features, many of which added specifically for the G37 Convertible such as pop-up rollbars, along with adaptive climate control, and aluminum and African rosewood accents, the new G drop-top takes everything you may already love about the Infiniti G and provides a well-executed attempt at (practically) its first foray into the convertible market.
