While the MINI Cooper is already a fuel efficient car, which has no doubt helped fuel its popularity in recent months, MINI used the LA Auto Show to show off its most fuel efficient Cooper to date - the MINI E.
For any automaker, efficiency is the name of the game these days, and the MINI E isn’t lacking in the regard. Power comes exclusively from an electric motor that produces the equivalent of 204 horsepower, and gives the MINI E a total range of about 250 miles on a single charge.
MINI fans will be pleased to know that not only does the E produce zero-emissions and feature a silent motor, but it also doesn’t lack MINI’s renowned fun-to-drive characteristics. The MINI E will accelerate from zero to 62 mph in 8.5 seconds and has a top speed of 95 mph. Additionally, the MINI E has balanced weight distribution and a suspension that’s tuned to handle just as well as the standard Cooper.
Supplying the MINI E with power is an all-new battery technology that balances high output and storage, while also being fully rechargeable in a mere 2.5 hours. Unfortunately, the battery for the MINI E resides in the space that’s normally reserved for the rear seat, rendering the MINI E only a two-seater for now.
The MINI E isn’t just a show car as select drivers in California, New York, and New Jersey will be able to lease the E. Only 500 drivers will be able to take advantage of the program so check out the MINI E Field Trial if you hope to be one of them.
