Four-Cylinder Engines Meet High Demand

It seems that more new car buyers are choosing four-cylinders over other engines according to new research from J.D. Power and Associates. Last month, four-cylinders accounted for 49 percent of all new car and light-duty pickup truck sales. While in many segments consumers have no choice but to select a four-banger, there are more all-new models that feature powerful and fuel-efficient four-cylinder engines, such as the completely redesigned Hyundai Sonata and the all-new Suzuki Kizashi sedan. As automakers move quickly to meet new strict federal fuel-economy standards, expect more four-cylinders to emerge that leverage performance-enhancing technology such as direct-injection and turbocharging.
