Although the styling of the latest Jetta isn’t any less conservative than the current model, the sixth-generation offers many attractive updates that should make this popular model even more competitive. As one of Volkswagen’s most recognizable vehicles behind the Beetle, the 2011 Jetta now rides on an all-new platform, rather than relying on Golf architecture. As a result, the new model is considerably longer, helping to add passenger room and move the Jetta into midsize sedan territory.
Not much could be said for what’s under the hood, as the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta features the same 2.5-liter inline five cylinder and 2.0-liter turbo-diesel four cylinder engine from the current model. A 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder will also be available on the Jetta GLI.
VW has yet to release the official pricing, but it’s expected to start around $16,000 when it arrives in showrooms in October.
