New reports are suggesting that the next generation Mazda MX-5 Miata, which is due in 2011, will receive a number of updates that will help it handle better and become more fuel efficient. Much of this will be attributed to several weight-saving techniques, such as trimming the overall profile of the car. In addition, use of a new powerplant, Mazda’s SKY-G engine, will also help reduce weight compared with the current model. Fuel economy is reportedly going to reach and possibly surpass 50 miles per gallon. Other technologies including regenerative braking and i-stop idling system may also be employed to help make this the most fuel-efficient Miata ever.
