Perhaps taking inspiration from the Porsche playbook, Nissan continues to make small but steady changes to the GT-R. Since its last complete redesign, the GT-R already had a stellar foundation, but Nissan keeps tweaking the supercar to make it better and better each year.
For 2013, the Nissan GT-R looks much like its predecessor. However, engineers at Nissan managed to squeeze out an addition 15 horsepower over the 2012 model. That means that Godzilla’s twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 now produces 545 horsepower and 463 pound-feet of torque. So what’s all that power good for? How about sprints from 0-60 mph in a mere 2.7 seconds…Yes, you read that correctly.
The latest model also receives optional carbon ceramic brakes to better tame all that power. Nissan says that the chassis has also been stiffened up, which has already helped the car tackle German’s famed Nürburgring about 10 seconds quicker than the outgoing model.
“The 2013 Nissan GT-R once again sends a bold statement that it remains on the leading edge of international sports car design, technology and performance,” said Brian Carolin, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing, Nissan North America, Inc. “It’s our desire to keep pushing the envelope, to never settle for second best or second place – a philosophy that makes Nissan GT-R one of the most coveted and affordable supercars in the world today.”
