Hyundai’s all-new Veloster offers buyers exciting styling and incredible value. Its sporty attitude also makes the three-door Veloster an attractive alternative to the Honda CR-Z, Scion tC, and the like. Sure, the Veloster’s 138-horsepower engine isn’t the most exhilarating, but it still offers some fun and a lot of MPG.
As the Veloster continues to rack up plenty of sales and awards, Hyundai is already spicing things up with a new turbocharged model. At the Detroit Auto Show this week, the Korean automaker unveiled the 2013 Veloster Turbo, which cranks out 201-horsepower and 194 pound-feet of torque.
With that much power, the Veloster is now encroaching on Volkswagen GTI and Honda Civic Si territory. However, the lightweight Veloster offers an even better weight-to-power ratio than these formidable competitors.
Aside from turbo power, the new Veloster Turbo features a lower front fascia, a heavily revised rear bumper with large round exhaust outlets, and new 18-inch wheels, helping to differentiate it from the naturally aspirated model. Although the suspension system hasn’t been reworked, the Veloster Turbo does offer sport-tuned steering.
Despite its sportier look and improved performance, the 2013 Veloster Turbo will still offer strong fuel economy. Hyundai says the new model will yield 27 mpg city and 38 mpg highway with the six-speed manual. A dual-clutch automatic is also available.
