When Hyundai released the Genesis, the Korean automaker proved it could successfully produce a bona fide luxury sedan. While we could debate whether the Genesis is on par with the Infiniti G37 or similar premium sport sedan, Hyundai is looking to further change perceptions with the launch of the full-size 2011 Equus. With the Lexus LS and Mercedes S-Class in its sights, the Equus offers an impressive list of luxury features, including a premium 17-speaker, 608-watt sound system that offers HD Radio, XM Satellite Radio and USB ports, not to mention an Apple iPad as the owner’s manual.
The 2011 Hyundai Equus will be propelled by the Hyundai’s advanced 4.6-liter V8, capable of producing 385 horsepower and 333 lb-ft of torque on premium fuel. With the help of a ZF six-speed automatic transmission, the Equus will go from 0-60 mph in a competitive 6.4 seconds while still averaging about 24 mpg on the highway. Pricing for the Equus will begin in the mid $50,000 range when it goes on sale later this year.
