The vehicle that put the “activity” in the sport utility vehicle nearly ten years ago is receiving a facelift for 2011. The 2011 BMW X5 SAV receives refreshed exterior and interior styling, plus the addition of new turbocharged inline-six cylinder and V8 engines mated to eight-seed automatic transmissions. Still maintaining its on-road prowess, without the pretense of extreme off-road capabilities, the 2011 X5 gets a new 300 hp and 300 lb-ft twin-scroll, single-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six for the new base xDrive35i model. Additionally, there will also be a 400 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 in the new xDrive50i model. These new powertrains will help the new X5 sprint from zero to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds and 5.3 seconds, respectively. In typical BMW fashion, aesthetic updates for this midlife update remain very subtle. Starting from $46,675, the more powerful and faster 2011 BMW X5 will be available in April.
